The Wold Golf Championship circuit heads to Mexico in a stop that was formerly for Doral. The past two years the event has been hosted at the Club de Golf Chapultepec just outside of Mexico City. As statistical information on the course and golfer-specific results begin to form, specific narratives have grown.

I’ve been an avid golf viewer for over 20 years and became hooked on the statistical side of golf betting since picking Brett Rumford out as a 200/1 winner for the 2004 Irish Open. The introduction of Daily Fantasy Sports has only peaked my interested further. I started off writing a weekly under $7k ‘Draftkings Bargain Picks’ article which then evolved into a general Value DFS Picks article for both the PGA and European tours. Last season was my first full season writing this article and I managed to tip 20 top 3 finishers throughout the season at an average price of just $8,200 per player and finish top 70 in the Gups Corner One & Done contest.

The West Coast swing wraps up at The Genesis Open in Los Angeles, California. The historic Riviera Country Club plays host. The course is a Par 71 with three par 5s, including the very easily reachable 1st hole. Distance has been a major correlating stat over the years and Driving Distance has topped out as the highest tagged subject this week on FanShare. I expect bombers to carry the ownership trend this week. Rory McIlroy is a prime candidate as he has become one of the longest players on tour. The greens are once again Poa Annua, which should add ownership to specialists.  Bubba Watson (who also fits the driving distance mold) has won 3 of the last 5 iterations of this tournament and will clearly benefit the most in the eyes of the Course History crowd.

The PGA Tour heads to the desert for the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The aptly named TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course is home to the loudest hole in golf, the fully enclosed Par 3 16th hole. As is typical for an Arizona course, the fairways are lined with desert shrubbery and cacti that can lead to interesting lies if players are loose off the tee. The course is a 7,266 yard Par 71, with three very scorable Par 5’s. Par 5 scoring is one of the key subject tags this week. The greens are historically easier for bad putters to figure out, making approach game even more important. Strokes Gained Approach is the most trending topic this week. Course history appears to be the strongest driver of tags this week, as many players have built strong resumes here over the years.
